Don't Ever Say "'21st Century education.'"

"7. Virtual field trips: With more frequent use, virtual trips are more powerful. The best schools do these at least monthly.

 8. Search engines: Students use daily. "

From  Project RED

How many educators follow guidelines like these? And where do most virtual field trips take students?

  1. I've taken my diagnostic medicine classes on a virtual field trip to a special procedures cath lab. They like it better when I take them to the real cath lab. :D

    1. Thanks for your comment! I'm happy to say, I've never had to think about whether I'd prefer the virtual "cath lab" over the real deal. But, you're comment made me think about an article I read this morning concerning "hybrid courses". The author is making the point that sometimes learning requires the physical experience, and no virtual replacement will do the trick. However, the author points out that real world lab tours, in your case a "cath lab", could be more meaningful if students are exposed to the virtual lab first. In this way students have a conceptual foundation for their real world experience.
Is this hybrid approach one that you've ever tried? And, if so, was this a successful teaching strategy?
